pick your own organic strawberries Thompson Finch Farm, Ancram, NY

Farm Stand
Last year we put up a production greenhouse and opened a farm stand selling our vegetables "in season." This year we have added a "hoop house", an unheated greenhouse that is full of heirloom tomatoes, and we are in the process of building a cooler to keep our greens and vegetables fresher. We are looking forward to offering you a more steady supply of vegetables from June through October, throughout the pick your own season . We will continue to carry organic meat and will also be carrying this year's maple syrup produced by the maple trees of our friends, Joe Baker and Bonner McAllester of Monterey, Mass. They make some of the best syrup I have ever tasted!

Reduce your car-berry footprint. Car pool for "car-berry credits" at Thompson-Finch Farm!

The "Other" Farmers of TFF
The "Other" Farmers of TFF without whom we could not carry on are those other people whom you see working around the place. We wanted you to know that we are blessed with amazing people to work with us. There is David, our old standby of many years without whose friendship and help we could not have functioned or gotten to where we are. He is cheerful (at times down right funny) hardworking, dedicated and always willing. He is also an incredible dancer and knows Everything there is to know about "Lord of the Rings". New this year is Peter, a well-seasoned vegetable grower in his own right having farmed for many years around the world in Camp Hill Villages. He brings with him a good, solid knowledge of vegetable production using biodynamic practices, orderliness, a deep regard for the farmer's way of life, an uncanny ability to find a beat out of every sound(wind, birds, tractors) and also has a great sense of humor. Then there is Allie, who has been an intern at several farms before coming here and is well beyond the intern status. She is cheerful, hard-working, willing and has the most developed sense of humor of us all. Out at the stand are Saskia, Weitske, Paul and Biz who have all been here before, some for many years and without whom we could not operate the pick your own operation. Their willingness to make your time here into a fond memory will bring you back for many years. New this year is Karen who will also be selling her strawberry artwork.

We love them all and are very grateful to their prescence, their interest in organic sustainable agriculture in general and this farm in particular.

Energy Independence
We are striving for this on our farm and Donny has fabricated an amazing array of tubes and valves and tanks out in our old greenhouse. We pick up oil from local restaraunts and schools, and he works it on down to a fine tuned, clean source that we have been using to run our tractor and truck for over a year now. We are happy to be reusing this waste oil but also use it knowing that it is not the ultimate solution. Driving less, turning off the lights, turning off the water heater , using less water, using the power and heat of the sun and simple reflection on this issue will lead us all to a cleaner environment and a world that we will feel happy to leave to our inheritors...
